I Quit On My Smart Phone For A Week (This Is What Happened)

FACT: A typical mobile user touches, taps, or swipes their smartphones an average of 2,617 times daily.

You can deny or admit it's an unhealthy obsession, but the role of a smartphone in your life is significant.

Still, it’s fascinating to imagine what our world would be like if, one day, we woke up without it.

So I experimented with what would happen if I were to live life without a phone for at least one week.

Honestly, it’s not something I’m looking forward to. As a mother of two young children, I rely on my phone to stay connected with my husband, who is often away on business.

I also use it to keep track of my calendar and to-do list and stay up-to-date on the latest news and happenings worldwide.

And my kids?

Well, they love playing games on my phone and often use it to Facetime or Skype with their grandparents, who live far away.

Needless to say, giving up my smartphone for a week is like asking me to give up my right arm.

But I'm curious to see what would happen if I did.

Would I be more productive?

More present?

Or will I end up a hot mess?

And you know what? What happened next surprised me!

The challenges and struggles of quitting on my smartphone can be summed up with one word: OVERWHELMING.

 When you're used to having a phone in your hand at all times, it's really hard to suddenly go cold turkey.

 Not only do I have to deal with the immense feeling of FOMO (fear of missing out), but I also have to find ways to entertain myself without the constant dopamine hits that my phone provides.

 This meant spending a lot more time reading, going for walks, and being more present at the moment.

 It also means having more time with my kids, which I cherish.

 And let me tell you. Any parent won't trade an hour playing with their kids in exchange for checking their Facebook notifications.

 There are moments when I feel completely lost without my phone.

 Like when I'm trying to kill time at the doctor's office or standing in line at the grocery store.

 I often wondered what my friends and family were up to or if anything new and exciting was happening in the world.

 Thankfully, I had a few books on hand to help me.

 At first, the transition was difficult because I was so used to being constantly surrounded by noise.

 However, as time passed, I began to appreciate and savor the quiet moments much more, except when my kids would do their best to fill the silence with their adorable stories and chatter.

 And I also realized that I didn't need my phone as much as I thought I did – which was a pretty eye-opening realization.

 Most importantly, I learned that being online always doesn't have to compromise my physical, emotional, and mental health, especially when I discovered this EXTRA LAYER OF PROTECTION I'm about to share with you in a short while.

My phone-free week made me healthier, happier, and more present than ever.

 On an average day, I would spend at least 2 hours on my phone – whether I was scrolling through Facebook, checking my emails, or watching YouTube videos.

 But when I didn't have my phone, I suddenly had all of this free time on my hands.

 And let me tell you, it felt amazing emotionally and physically.

I could finally focus on the important things, and I didn't have the constant distraction from my phone.

 I could also take long walks in the park and add a 30-minute home workout to my routine without worrying about where my phone was.

 Overall, I felt a lot healthier – both mentally and physically – when I wasn't tethered to my phone all the time.

 I initially thought it was just a placebo effect, but after a week, I realized it was real!

 Even more so when I learned that the problems are due to the EMF mobile devices emit, which affects our body on a cellular level, affecting how we feel, think, and act.

 As a parent, this has been on my mind a lot lately.

 I want to protect my kids from the harmful effects of EMF radiation, but I also don't want to take away their favorite toys (aka their phones).

Here are some tips on how you can try quitting your phone for a week, too!

1. Put your phone on airplane mode

This is the most obvious tip, but it's also the most important.

 Putting your phone in airplane mode will help to minimize the EMF radiation it emits, which is crucial for your health.

 It also allows you to focus on the present moment and be more present with the people around you.

2. Leave your phone at home

When you're out and about, leave your phone at home as much as possible.

 This way, you won't be tempted to constantly check it, and you can focus on enjoying your time without the distraction.

3. Set specific times for phone use

If you need help to completely give up your phone, set specific times for phone use.

 For example, you can allow yourself to use your phone for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes at night.

 Or, you can only use your phone during breaks at work.

 Whatever works for you, make sure you stick to it!

4. Download a phone-free app

Plenty of phone-free apps can help you break your phone addiction.

 For instance, some apps block certain websites or apps for a set amount of time, while others track your screen time and urge you to reduce it.

5. Find a buddy

It's always helpful to have someone to help you through tough times – and quitting your phone for a week is no different.

Find a friend or family member interested in quitting their phone, and support each other throughout the process.

And in my case, I have two kids that are always active and keep me on my toes for hours!

To wrap up, finding a balance with your phone use is important.

It's okay to use your phone, but try to be aware of how much time you spend on it.

And if you're feeling especially stressed or anxious, consider taking a break from your phone and disconnecting from the digital world for a while.

It might be the break you need!
